SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
In the Roxborough game Kevin Kolmer had an interesting triple- 1 rush, 1 receiving and 1 kick off return for a TD
QB Steve Santarlasci throws 11-23 for 293 yards against Tower Hill. On the day,the Friars rang up 571 total yards of offense- 293 passing and 287 rushing. Tagger Leahy led the way with 106 yards on 9 touches.
The 42 points was a season high and the most points in a game since 1960.
Santarlasci’s 293 yards currently puts him 4th all-time in passing yards in a game. He is behind Drew Gunther 386 yards in 2018, Nick Marras 338 yards in 2015, and Tommy Rumer’s 317 yards in 2010. On this day Steve threw for 3 TDs and ran for another.
In Malvern’s 10-6 win over Haverford School, the Friars controlled the ball for 19 out of the 24 minutes in the 2nd half. This was aided by a drive that lasted an unbelievable 22 plays.
Haverford School averaged 29 points a game but only scored 6 points against the Mavern defense. In the game, John Galbally led the defense with 9 unassisted tackles.
It was the 1st time since 1962 than Malvern beat both Haverford School and Episcopal in the same season.
In the 12-8 Kennedy win MP rushed for 181 yards. Kevin Kolmer and John “Tagger” Leahy shared the load. Tagger had 82 yards and Kevin had 60. Kevin tallied both TDs for Malvern in the come from behind win.
MP took the opening drive 70 yards against Episcopal and it was all they needed in a 6-0 win.
The MP defense held Episcopal to 24 total yards on the day- 7 rush and 17 passing.
The 40-0 win against Chestnut Hill snapped a 3 game skid for the Friars. The win also started an unusual winning streak for Malvern. Since 1969 MP is 20-0 vs the Hillers. CHA left the IA in 1973 and returned in 2006. MP also won in 1970, 1971 and 1972 (forfeit). They remain undefeated since CHA came back into the IA in 2006.
In the CHA game the MP offense rumbled for 321 yards on the ground. Brian Kolmer led the way with 22 rushes for 174 yards. For his efforts Brian was recognized as a Maxwell Player of the Week. QB Billy Kuharich was 4-6 for 68 yards and a TD to Dave Sirhal.
Malvern scored more point in the 2nd half against Penn Charter (22 points) than Penn Charter had given up in any game that season. The Quakers had shut out 2 opponents and held 4 others to just one touchdown. Charter only gave up 55 points against the 8 other opponents. That is 6.8 per game. Malvern laid a 30 spot on them….nice.
