A LOOK BACK
2024 EDITION
July 3rd, 2024
Every year I want to be able to pass on to you where the current graduating class of football players have decided extend their playing days. This is the third year in a row and represents the 2024 edition (Careys Corner August 2022 and June 2023).This story is a celebration of this year’s seniors and where they are taking their athletic and academic talents to the college of their choice. . For those Friars who want to move up and move on the Malvern Prep staff does an incredible job of helping the players continue their career at the next level. For the size of the school, Malvern places athletes in college at a higher rate than many other area high schools that are two to three times larger than Malvern’s enrollment. My hope is by posting this information/story that it will save the guys endless hours of repetition. Call it a public service announcement.
We have all been there. It is spring of your senior year and the $64,000 question which everyone who has ever known you on planet Earth wants to know, “Where are you going to college?” Think back to your senior year in high school and recall how many times you answered that question AND how many times you had to explain your answer. It usually lasted 15- 20 minutes until you finished, BUT, you repeated it over and over and over again until the cows came home. You repeated your explanation to aunts, uncles, cousins, distant relatives who you have seen once in your life, neighbors, friend of neighbors, the postman. Okay, I admit to going overboard just a bit but I think you get where I am going with this.
This article has 2 parts. The 1st part is current 2024 football seniors and where they chose to play next year. You will notice some significant “big beef” upfront has left the building. Logan, Liam, Dylan, Phil and Peter are some relatively large human beings. Coaches will always tell you games are won up front and these five more than did their job. All 5 were back to back all Inter-Ac selections. Chris Lake also made it as an LB. Last but not least was All IA kicker Jake Ploszay. Jake made his permanent mark in the kicking record books of Malvern (MP History Tops in Kicking). Wake Forest will be getting a good one.
Part 2 is the multi-sport athlete. Malvern football has had great success over the years because some of their best football players played another sport in college. Football was their secondary not primary sport. This year was no different. These two players excelled at both, a true two for one deal. Saw them both the lax field. MP lax had an incredible run against not only some of the best lax programs in the area but also the top high school lax programs in the country. Ennis is going to Brown. The Ivy League has a reputation of having some of the best lacrosse programs throughout the entire league. Peri will join the nationally ranked Penn State Nittany Lions lacrosse program. He will join fellow Friars Will Peden, Matt Traynor and Pat Keenan.
With the transfer portal and NILS who knows what the future holds for them. One thing I do know, as Malvern guys, whatever they do and wherever they finish, I am confident that they will represent themself, their family and Malvern Prep. Take a look at the range and quality of schools these Malvern Prep student-athletes chose. They are to be congratulated on a job well done.
